1. Can I use your service if I am on AOL?

Yes it is possible but you will loose the scheduling feature and AOL may disconnect you. Since AOL uses a proprietary dialer instead of windows built dial up networking, the backup software cannot automatically dial the Internet. AOL also does a inactivity timeout. If they detect no activity from your AOL Browser, it will disconnect you.

2. Can I use your service to backup my whole computer?

The software will allow you to select all the files on your computer, but doing so will not get you the results you may desire. When Windows is running, there are many files that are 'open'. Open files are backed up. The purpose of the service is to backup critical data files. The ideal situation would be to keep all your data (ie. Word/Excel/Access files, Quicken/Quickbooks files...) in one place like the 'My Documents' folder or a common folder on a server. Then you would set the backup software to backup all files in the folder.

4. How does the reliability of AccuBak Online Backup compare with that of tape backups?

There is no comparison. Our backup service is much more reliable than most tape backups. We have MANY clients who have run our service for years without ever changing their configuration and without ever missing a backup. We will put our track record up against any tape backup system. A major risk of a tape systems is that even when all indicators point to successful backups, the restores fail. Secondly, most companies using tape systems don't employ a secondary fail-safe system. Our system has redundancy. Another major risk of a tape system is even if you have a successful backup, what if the tape is left in the office. If there is a fire, there is no way to restore your data because the tape was the victim of the disaster as well. Our backups are done offsite so you know that your data will be safe.

5. Can I still use my tape system?

Yes. Many of our clients continue to run their tape backups, but no longer transport their tapes off site. Redundancy is the key to data security, so you can never have too many backups

6. How long will it take to transmit a file

The time depends upon the type of data you are backing up, the amount of available bandwidth and the amount of change to that data. With the AccuBak Online Backup Agent, you should run the program in simulation mode and use the Analyze option to get a breakdown of transmit time needed for various bandwidths
